Called to Equip people to Serve by Growing Disciples of Jesus Christ

Devotion for March 4 by Pat Benoy

What do you want to be when you grow up?  This is a common question asked of youth and a question many of us are still asking ourselves.  I think knowing your personal strengths can equip you to answer this question.

I recently participated in a “Living Your Strengths” class at church.  The class required us to purchase a book, take an on-line assessment and attend four classes.  The on-line assessment identifies your top five strengths.  A strength is defined as a combination of your talents, skill and knowledge.  Talents are God given, skills and knowledge can be acquired to enhance your talents.

We are each unique and special in God’s eyes.  Statistically, there is only a 1 in 33 million chance that you would meet someone whose top five strengths are exactly the same as yours.  WOW!  Psalm 139:14 describes the completeness of God’s knowledge and care for every individual, “I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.  Wonderful are your works; that I know very well.”

Gracious God, help us to recognize the talents that you have equipped us with     and not focus on our weaknesses, but rather build on our strengths.  May we use     these strengths to do your good works within our church community and throughout the world.  Amen.
