Called to Equip people to Serve by Growing Disciples of Jesus Christ

Devotion for March 18 by Sue Cardinal

“Go make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”
This is Jesus command in Matthew 28:19.

Wow, that can sound a little intimidating or even a bit scary.  Merriam Webster’s definition of disciple is “one who accepts and assists in spreading the doctrines of another”.  Well, that doesn’t sound too hard, but sometimes we can feel less qualified than others to do this. Some may think “I haven’t taken any religion classes nor do I attend church every week, so how can I be qualified to be a disciple?”  I am not sure any of this matters to God.  Being a disciple doesn’t necessarily mean that we have to be able to recite bible verses word for word.  I think it means that we should share our faith journeys and tell them how much better life is with God in our lives.  Sometimes it can mean just inviting a friend or family member to worship with you and talking about it over a cup of coffee afterwards.  We are all teachers, so let’s accept Jesus’ marching orders and go out and make disciples. As Jesus said “And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Heavenly Father, give us the courage to go out and spread your word and share the love you have put into our hearts with others.  So many people are suffering right now and their lives would be so much better if they walked with you.
